When you think of a wedding, you might picture a big church, lots of guests, and a huge party afterward. But imagine for a moment, just you and the love of your life, exchanging vows in one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. That’s exactly what Alyssa and Elvin did when they decided to elope at God’s Thumb in Oregon. Their story is not just about their love for each other but also about their adventure to such a special and unique location.

Why Elope At God’s Thumb?

God’s Thumb is a hidden gem located in Lincoln City, Oregon. It’s a place where the forest meets the ocean, creating stunning views that look like they’re straight out of a fairy tale. It’s very reminiscent and almost gives off an Ireland vibe. Eloping here means having a unique and intimate ceremony with the most incredibly stunning backdrop you could ask for. It’s perfect for couples who love adventure and want their special day to be just about them and the incredible nature around them.

The Hike to the Ceremony Spot

Alyssa and Elvin’s wedding day started with an exciting hike to God’s Thumb. The trail is known for its lush green forests and with occasional sightings of deer and birds along the way. The hike is about 3.9 miles out and back, and is incredibly rewarding.  It was an event they would never forget, leading them to the perfect spot for their ceremony. The hike made their elopement even more special and we were able to capture some stunning images along the way.

Reading Their Vows

When they finally reached the top of God’s Thumb, Alyssa and Elvin witnessed the Pacific Ocean and the rugged Oregon coastline. It was here that they read their vows to each other. Surrounded by nothing but the gentle sounds of nature, Alyssa and Elvin exchanged vows in a truly heartfelt moment. They promised to love and support each other through good times and bad, making this the most unforgettable part of their elopement.

The Beauty of Eloping

What makes eloping so beautiful is that it eliminates all the distractions and focuses solely on the couple and their love for each other. For Alyssa and Elvin, eloping at God’s Thumb meant that they could enjoy their day without worrying about pleasing hundreds of guests or sticking to a strict schedule. It was just the two of them, making lifelong memories in a place that looks like heaven on earth.

Tips for Planning Your Elopement at God’s Thumb

If Alyssa and Elvin’s story has inspired you to consider eloping at God’s Thumb, here are a few tips to make your day as perfect as theirs:

  1. Check the Weather: The Oregon coast can be unpredictable, so make sure to check the weather and choose a day that’s likely to be clear.
  2. Wear Comfortable Shoes: Remember, there’s a hike involved, so wear shoes that are comfortable and suitable for the trail. You can always bring hiking shoes and change into your ceremony shoes when you get to the top!
  3. Hire a Photographer: Even though it’s an elopement, you’ll absolutely want to capture these moments forever. A photographer who’s experienced with outdoor weddings (like myself) can help you do that.
  4. Pack Light: Keep your belongings to a minimum. A small backpack with water, snacks, and your wedding attire (if you’re changing at the top) is all you need.
  5. Leave No Trace: Be mindful of the environment. Whatever you bring with you, make sure to take it back. Preserve the beauty of God’s Thumb for others to also enjoy.
