Flagstaff, Arizona offers a stunning setting for capturing love stories. I took photos of Emee and Bryson here for their engagement session. Sitting in the heart of the mountains, Flagstaff is known for its beautiful landscapes and perfect weather, making it an ideal choice for engagement photos. Emee and Bryson chose September for their shoot, enjoying mild temperatures and exploring the breathtaking mountain basin. With its diverse backdrops and vibrant sunsets, Flagstaff provides the best place for capturing timeless moments.

Why Flagstaff?

Flagstaff is a hidden gem for couples seeking scenic beauty and adventure. Here’s why it’s an AMAZING choice for engagement photos:

  • Diverse Landscapes: This area has everything from dense forests and open meadows to rugged mountain peaks, offering multiple stunning backdrops.
  • Perfect Weather: The best time to take photos in Flagstaff is between late May and mid-October. During this period, you can expect mild temperatures and clear skies.
  • The Sunsets: Famous for its vibrant and colorful sunsets, Flagstaff provides the perfect golden hour to capture warm, intimate moments.

Emee and Bryson’s September Session

Emee and Bryson chose September for their engagement shoot, making the most of the perfect blend of weather and natural beauty. Their day began with exploring the mountain basin, where the views of the surrounding mountains provided the best backdrop to showcase their adventurous spirit. As the sun began to set, they were able to watch one of Flagstaff’s iconic sunsets.

Tips for Your Engagement Session in Flagstaff

Planning your own engagement session in Flagstaff? Some tips I recommend for your session include:

  1. Timing is Key
    • Go for a session between late May and mid-October to enjoy the best weather. September offers cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
  2. Scout Your Location
    • Explore various locations beforehand to find the perfect backdrop. The mountain basin was ideal for Emee and Bryson, providing diverse scenery that added depth to their photos.
  3. Embrace the Adventure
    • Don’t shy away from the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking up a trail or finding a secluded forest spot, embracing nature can lead to some of the most memorable shots. I always encourage adding activities into your photos. These can be so unique to capture and add to your session!
  4. Capture the Magic
    • Work with a photographer who knows the area well (like myself!). I can help guide you to the best spots for authentic moments.
  5. Make the Most out of your Session
    • Include multiple locations into your photoshoot! You can add different outfits as well. Another amazing location in the area is Cathedral Rock. I recently captured a Cathedral Rock Elopement at this spot and the photos turned out insanely stunning!

What to Wear for Engagement Photos

Choosing the right outfit for your engagement photos can make a big difference in how comfortable and confident you feel during the session. For an outdoor setting like Flagstaff, consider wearing neutral colors that blend with the natural surroundings. Neutral colors are also timeless and will look the best in 40 years. Hiking boots would be helpful if you are planning on hiking to a certain location. You can always bring a change of shoes if you are not wanting hiking boots in your photos. Additionally, layering your clothing is important to determine the changing weather conditions. You can always take off layers, but planning ahead could just make your experience more enjoyable!

Flagstaff’s Seasons

While September was perfect for Emee and Bryson, each season in Flagstaff offers its own unique charm:

  • Spring (Late May-June): When wildflowers bloom, the landscape becomes lush and vibrant.
  • Summer (July-August): The warm weather is ideal for exploring higher altitudes and mountain trails.
  • Fall (September-October): Great temperatures and fall foliage can add to your photos.
