Why Choose the Grand Tetons?

The Grand Tetons are a part of the Rocky Mountains and are known for their breathtaking scenery. The towering peaks, clear lakes, and abundant wildlife create a picture-perfect backdrop for your big day. Whether you’re an adventurous couple or just love the great outdoors, getting married here will give you amazing memories and photos that will last a lifetime.

Understanding Wyoming Marriage Laws

Before you can say “I do,” you need to comply with Wyoming’s marriage laws. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Marriage License: You’ll need a marriage license from the state of Wyoming. Both you and your partner must appear in person at the county clerk’s office. Grand Teton National Park is located in Teton County, so you can visit the Teton County Clerk’s Office in Jackson, WY.
  • Identification: Bring valid identification, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  • Age Requirements: You must be at least 18 years old to get married without parental consent. If you’re 16 or 17, you’ll need a parent or guardian’s approval.
  • No Waiting Period: Wyoming does not have a waiting period after you get your marriage license. This means you can get married the same day you receive it.
  • License Fee: Be prepared to pay a small fee, usually around $30.

Choosing Your Location

The first thing you’ll need to do is decide exactly where in the Grand Tetons you want to get married. There are several beautiful spots within Grand Teton National Park. Some popular options include:

Each location has its own unique charm, so take your time to choose the one that feels right for you.

Obtain a Special Use Permit

To hold a wedding ceremony in Grand Teton National Park, you’ll need a special use permit. This permit ensures that your wedding doesn’t interfere with the park’s natural beauty and operations. Here’s how to get one:

  1. Apply Early: It’s best to apply for your permit as early as possible. You can find the application form on the Grand Teton National Park’s website.
  2. Complete the Application: Fill out all the required information, including the date, time, and location of your wedding. There might be a fee, so prepare to pay that as well.
  3. Submit the Form: Once you’ve completed the application, submit it to the park administration. They will review your request and issue a permit if everything is in order.

Having this permit is essential, so don’t skip this step! If you have any questions your photographer should be able to help.

Finding an Officiant

In Wyoming, you need an officiant to perform your wedding ceremony. Here are some options:

Religious Officiant

Many couples choose a religious leader from their faith to perform the ceremony.

Civil Officiant:

You can also have a judge or other legal official marry you.

Friend or Family Member

In some cases, a friend or family member can become ordained online to officiate your wedding. Just make sure they meet Wyoming’s legal requirements.

Make sure to book your officiant well in advance, especially if you’re planning a summer wedding, as this is a popular time for weddings in the Grand Tetons.

Plan Your Ceremony

Now that you’ve got the legal stuff sorted out, it’s time to plan the fun part, your ceremony! Here are some tips:

  • Keep It Simple: Nature is your backdrop, so you don’t need much decoration. A few personal touches like flowers or a simple arch can enhance the beauty of your surroundings.
  • Consider the Weather: The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, so have a backup plan in case of rain or extreme temperatures. I highly recommend renting an Airbnb to get ready in and to utilize as a secondary location if necessary!
  • Transportation: Make sure you and your guests know how to get to the ceremony site. Consider renting a shuttle bus if it’s a remote location.

Enjoy Your Special Day!

With all the planning done, it’s time to enjoy your wedding day. Take in the stunning views, savor the moment, and celebrate your love surrounded by the natural beauty of the Grand Tetons.
