Okay, so you’re dreaming of a stress-free elopement, but the thought of hiking up a mountain, sweating and trying not to trip over your dress doesn’t exactly scream romantic. Don’t worry, I’m here to tell you that you can elope without hiking and still have an unforgettable experience with insane views.

Eloping isn’t about the big party. It’s about creating a day that’s intimate, personal, and maybe even a little adventurous, but on your terms. Hiking isn’t mandatory. There are so many gorgeous spots where you can say “I do” without needing hiking boots. Here’s how to elope without hiking!

Step 1: Pick an Accessible Spot

First things first, location is everything. Just because you’re skipping the hike doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice views. You’d be surprised how many elopement-worthy spots are easily accessible. Think along the lines of scenic overlooks, gardens, cozy beach coves, or even private Airbnb properties with insane backdrops. There are so many places where you can step out of your car, walk just a few feet, and still feel like you’re on top of the world. The key is to choose a place that matches your vibe while keeping accessibility in mind.

If you’re eloping with family (like your parents or grandparents), this is especially important. You don’t want anyone feeling left out because the location is too hard to get to! Choosing an easy-to-access spot gives everyone a chance to be comfortable and fully present for your big moment. Trust me, your loved ones will thank you. Step 2: Find a Photographer Who Gets It

Your photographer is more than just someone snapping photos. They’re basically your planner, tour guide, and hype person all in one. When you’re eloping without hiking, it’s crucial to hire a photographer who knows the area like the back of their hand. Here’s why this is so important:

  • Local Knowledge: They’ll know all the secret, crowd-free spots with amazing views.
  • Timing: They can help you plan your day to get the best lighting.
  • Stress-Free Experience: You won’t need to worry about logistics because they’ve got it all figured out.
  • Creative Eye: A skilled photographer can make even the simplest location look like a fairytale.

An experienced photographer (hey, like me!) can also help you avoid busy spots or tourist traps. Nobody wants strangers in the background of their vows or having to awkwardly wait for a crowd to clear out. Your photographer will know all the hidden gems, so your elopement feels exclusive and effortless. Plus, they’re pros at capturing those in-between moments that make your photos unique.

Step 3: Make It Personal

Once you’ve nailed the location and photographer, it’s time to lean into the details that make your elopement your elopement. This is one of the fun parts because there are basically no rules! Eloping means you get to ditch all the traditional wedding stress and focus on the stuff that matters most to you.

Love picnics? Plan one with all your favorite snacks after the ceremony. Into live music? Hire a local musician to play while you exchange rings. If you’re eloping with family, you can organize a sweet dinner to celebrate afterward. Seriously, go all out or keep it super relaxed. it’s completely your call. Just make it feel like you.

Step 4: Decide If You’re Bringing Family

Speaking of family, this can be a big question when planning your elopement. Should you invite your closest crew, or should it just be the two of you? Both options have major pros, but it really comes down to how you envision your day.

If you want those intimate family vibes, keep it small and low-pressure. A parent, sibling, or your bestie as a witness can make the day feel extra meaningful. Small elopements also mean you can include your people in unique ways. Maybe your mom reads a heartfelt letter, or your sister doubles as your makeup artist.

On the other hand, if you’re craving total intimacy, skipping guests entirely and going solo might be your thing. Sometimes, it’s nice to just focus on the two of you, free from distractions. Either way, there’s no right or wrong. If you’re stuck deciding, read my blog Elopement vs. Micro Wedding: How to Choose.

It’s about creating a day that’s super personal—whether that means adding in family or keeping it just the two of you. Remember, your elopement is your way to say “I do” on your terms. No stress, no judgments.
