There’s something magical about starting your elopement day at sunrise, with quiet mountains, soft light, and the calm of early morning. That’s exactly what this Schwabacher Landing elopement shoot was all about!

Even though this was a shoot for inspiration, the energy felt just like a real elopement: heartfelt vows, golden light on the Teton peaks, and some of the most insane photos!

Why Schwabacher Landing is a Top Elopement Spot

Schwabacher Landing is one of the most iconic locations in Grand Teton National Park and for good reason.

  • Epic mountain views: The Tetons rise dramatically behind the Snake River, making every photo feel cinematic. Seriously one of the most iconic spots in the park!
  • Water reflections: Early morning light and calm water can create mirror-like reflections of the mountains.
  • Easy access: You don’t need to hike for miles! Schwabacher Landing is just a short 5-10 minute walk from the parking area.

Versatile scenery: Meadows, riverbanks, and iconic mountain backdrops give plenty of variety for photos.

Early Summer at Schwabacher

I shot this in mid-May, early summer in the park, which was perfect for several reasons:

  • Golden morning light: At sunrise the sun hits the peaks, showing off the prettiest morning glow!
  • Starting to Bloom: The meadows are just starting to bloom, adding color and texture to the photos.
  • Fewer crowds: Early morning in May means fewer visitors at this, so it’s easier to have the space feel intimate. Any other time of the year at Schwabacher this is a popular sunrise spot, so I highly recommend later in the day or sunset for a summer/fall ceremony here!

There’s truly nothing like watching the mountains wake up in the early morning light!

Vows and Photography at Sunrise

Madi & Nate read their vows right on the riverbank just past sunrise. After their vow exchange, we explored a few spots along the landing, capturing reflections in the river and the stunning Tetons backdrops.

Getting Married at Schwabacher Landing: Permit Info

If you’re dreaming of your own Schwabacher Landing elopement, here’s what you need to know about legally getting married there:

  1. Special Use Permit:
All weddings and elopements in Grand Teton National Park require a special use permit. You can apply directly through the National Park Service website. This spot is one of the most loved in all the park, and can sell out right away as a heads up!
  2. Timing & Access:
Sunset and later afternoons are ideal at this location, not only for light but also for avoiding crowds.
  3. Group Size:
Schwabacher Landing is best for small, intimate ceremonies, usually up to 15–20 guests. Your permit does allow up to 25 guests at this location! Remember that your total guest count includes the two of you as well as your photographer and anyone else that you would hire and be present at your ceremony.
  4. Leave No Trace:
Pack out everything you bring in and respect the natural environment, the park thrives because visitors protect it. Also always to stay on trail.

If permits or logistics feel overwhelming, I help all my couples navigate this so they can focus on their day instead of the paperwork!
