Lindsey and Ryan’s Lake McDonald Lodge elopement in Glacier National Park was a perfect example of why elopements are all about love, embarrassing nature and flexibility. These two traveled all the way from Wisconsin with their closest family to get married in the park, and even though the day was filled with rain, it didn’t lack any of the love!
Their day was full of adventure, and completely centered around them! From their intimate first looks to exploring Glacier’s best spots, Lindsey and Ryan’s wedding shows that even stormy skies can make for incredible photos and still a stunning elopement day!
Morning First Look at Lake McDonald
We kicked off their day at Lake McDonald, one of the most iconic spots in Glacier National Park. The moody, rainy skies actually made the scenery even more dramatic! The lake reflecting the mountains and clouds set such a perfect tone for the day.
The first look was intimate and emotional. Lindsey and Ryan had chosen to see each other privately before the ceremony, and the moment felt genuine and calm despite the rain. Next up Lindsey did a first look with her day! Love when couples choose to implement traditional elements into their elopement day.

Pivoting with Rain: Why Experience Matters
One of the big takeaways from Lindsey and Ryan’s day is how important it is to have a photographer who knows the area well.
Officiated by the amazing 406 officiant, their intimate ceremony turned out so perfectly! They were supposed to have their ceremony by the lake but the rain had other plans. So we pivoted and had their ceremony at a little building next to the lodge! Still so intimate and perfect!
Glacier National Park weather can change in an instant, and sometimes you have to pivot on the fly to get the best shots and keep your day on track.
For Lindsey and Ryan, this meant finding alternative spots and adjusting our schedule slightly to make the most of every moment. From moving certain locations, having someone who knows the park inside and out makes all the difference.
Rain doesn’t have to ruin your Lake McDonald Lodge elopement, in fact, it can add mood, drama, and those cinematic photos you’ll treasure forever. The key is planning ahead, staying flexible, and working with a guide (or photographer) who knows the area well!
Adventuring on Going-to-the-Sun Road
After their ceremony, Lindsey and Ryan spent the rest of the day exploring Glacier’s famous Going-to-the-Sun Road. Despite the rain, the views were stunning, and we were able to find quiet spots to capture some really great photos!
One of the best parts of a full-day elopement is having the freedom to adventure and capture different parts of the park. We stopped at a few scenic overlooks, wandered to one of my favorite blue lakes, and took photos in all the moody light.
